This was my first, but certainly not my last visit to Ross on Wye. I was lucky enough to stay at the White Lion situated on the banks of the Wye on the outskirts of the town. This 17th century former police station and jail was to me a home from home. Dave the Landlord is a mine of information about the local area, with a vast knowledge about all the best places to fish,at what time and for what species. (Anglers take note)! while his wife Jacqui will cater for your comfort while staying at this fantastic rural retreat. You will soon get used to the kitchen staff fussing over you at both breakfast and supper the food is superb. This is a hostelry frequented by locals who appreciate a well kept pint, good company and good food. The views from the rear garden over the river are an added bonus to a lovely weekend. To Dave,Jacqui and all the staff thank you x Ron Added: October 12, 2008 |

My husband (then boyfriend) and I have stayed at the White Lion on at least 4 occaisions, although at the time it was under the previous landlord/lady. We literally stumbled upon it by accidend whilst looking for accomadation in the Ross area. I can honestly say with all my heart that we were not dissapointed with any aspect of this beautiful place. The staff, the rooms, the views, and especially the restaurant, nice food being "our thing". The reason for me writing this is that we are thinking about visiting again very soon so i thought of looking on the web site and found the guest book. There was no website last time we visited. Any way, what i've read makes me want to come back even more than before, Jacqui and Dave sound like the perfect hosts for this kind of place, look forward to meeting Bailey also. Everything that has been written in the guest book rings true to us. Cant wait to go back there. We also experienced a "visit". On our very first night the bar staff told us of the friendly spirit and of some of the pranks it gets up to and true enough when we returned to our room all our bath towels had been strewn around the bathoom floor. Friendly spirit or one of the staff playing along with the story?? who knows?? Added: September 21, 2008 |

Apologies for not adding comments sooner, however Bill and I stayed here 5th and 6th August 2008 during a plague of flies!!!!!Poor Jacqui constantly had a can of fly spray to hand and made me promise not to mention it on the guestbook! Sorry Jacqui, but you did make us laugh! It wasn't just you who were affected, everywhere seemed to be suffering! Four poster room was lovely and clean and Jacqui and Dave were the perfect hosts, especially the night when Dave, Bill and myself together with another guest, Mick (who was key grip filming Merlin) stayed up in the bar drinking till very late. We will definately return! Oh, and the breakfast was fabulous, didn't need lunch, oh, and the sea bass.....Thank you, will see you again! ![]() Added: September 16, 2008 |

Had a fabulous stay at The White Lion, celebrating a 40th birthday. The 4-poster room was lovely and clean and the breakfast was fabulous. We dined in The Gaol restaurant on the evening and the food was delicious. Jacqui (landlady) was brilliant and nothing was too much trouble. Her attention to detail and those little "extras" was much appreciated. I can recommend it whole-heartedly and we will be back! Oh yes, Bailey the dog was a big hit with the kids!!! Many thanks to you all. Added: June 30, 2008 |
